As a PADI scuba diver, you are now comfortable in planning and conducting your own dives, and more than able to continue along your own personal underwater journey, but what if things don’t go to plan? Can you cope when a problem arises in or under water?
Our PADI Rescue Diver course is specially designed to expose you to potential problems and scenarios that you may one day have to deal with. During the course, our team of dedicated Instructors will equip you with the specific skills and techniques you will need to be able to confidently and decisively manage the situation. Whether as a member of a team or as a buddy pair, by the end of this course you will be a better, safer and more able Underwater Adventurer Scuba Diver than ever before.
So even though you have now learnt all the skills you need to be able to conduct your own dives and gained some extra experience along the way, you can always learn more. Dives are always easy and enjoyable when everything goes well and according to plan; but sometimes they don’t. So this is where you need to add a very special something to your tool box- The PADI Rescue Diver qualification.
PADI Rescue Diver consists of knowledge development, confined water training and open water evaluation. Candidates are evaluated based on realistic situations in the open water training to ensure that they are able to apply their knowledge from theory and practical sessions.
The PADI Rescue Diver course is NOT ONLY ABOUT learning how to rescue another diver. It is also about self rescue and how to avoid accidents. The PADI Rescue Diver certification is a prerequisite for Master Scuba Diver Certification as well as for all Professional level PADI courses, beginning with the PADI Divemaster certification. This challenging and rewarding course will expand your knowledge and increase your experience level. Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers.
Pre-requisite
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization).
- Minimum age: 15 years old (12 for PADI Junior Rescue Diver)
- Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR program or Emergency First Response program within the past 24 months

Knowledge Development Session |
The Knowledge Development Sections detail how to direct student divers in self-directed learning enhanced with instructor-led prescriptive knowledge development presentations. Each of the five Knowledge Development Presentations provides an outline with the session’s learning objectives and material for meeting those objectives. Although this course is challenging, it is a rewarding way to build your confidence. Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. Many divers say this is the best course they’ve ever taken.

Skills Development Session |
In rescue training sessions, student divers apply what they learn during knowledge development as they develop rescue related procedural and motor skills. The ten rescue training exercises outlined in these sections progress from simple rescue skills, such as diver tows, to more complex skills, such as
resuscitating an unconscious diver in the water. The rescue training exercises first introduce the skills and various techniques to divers, then allow them to practice those techniques. During practice rescue scenarios, divers discover which techniques are appropriate in different situations. Remember, there is no single “right” way to perform a rescue. Divers continue to practise skills within each exercise rescue scenario until they have fulfilled performance requirements.

Open Water Evaluation |
The rescue skills learnt during the Rescue Training Sessions form the foundation for dive emergency management. The four dive accident scenarios in open water give student divers the opportunity to apply all these skills in a realistic context, providing them with added learning opportunities.
The opportunity to apply their knowledge and rescue skills in the open water environment gives students a sense of accomplishment. Participating under open water conditions, at mid course, also provides students with an environmental reference in which to incorporate past and future learning. By employing their knowledge and skill under conditions they are likely to dive in, students are more likely to reflect upon their previously learned rescue skills and will be encouraged to try different techniques when learning new rescue skills.

There are about 18 PADI Dive Centres in Singapore and only a handful of them have the rating of a PADI 5 Star IDC - one of the highest rating given to a dive centre.
Read more about PADI Dive Centre Rating here.
Short of telling you why we are good, we will tell you what it takes to become a proper PADI 5 Star IDC Centre. Even though there are some PADI 5 Star Facilities which only meet minimal requirements, Orpheus Dive has far superceded the minimal requirements, ensuring that our divers have a one stop dive centre and dive club.

Equipment Retail |
As a PADI 5 Star Dive Facility, a dive centre must provide in-house retail. Orpheus Dive has a well stocked inventory store covering major brands such as Scubapro, Zeagle, TUSA, Seac Sub, Beauchat, Trident, XS Scuba, Underwater Kinetics and Problue.
In Singapore, there ARE ONLY TWO dive centres that are into full retail business.
Note to diver : There are dive centres that claim to have a retail business. However, they only have an online retail arm that purchase stock when a customer makes an order. Unlike us, our well stocked store has everything that a diver needs. And because of the volume purchase, we are able to offer lower prices compared to the rest of the other dive centres.

Equipment Servicing |
| |
Orpheus Dive Singapore is an Authorized Service Centre for Scubapro, Apollo, Zeagle and Seac Sub. We have a fulltime service technician that is solely in charge of helping divers service their equipment and handling their annual servicing needs. |
| |
|
 |
Equipment Rental |
| |
Orpheus Dive services and manages their own rental gear, unlike many independent dive centres and instructors who are dependent on others for their rental needs. All rental gear are serviced on a quarterly basis to ensure that they are kept in prime condition.
