PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course
Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course can benefit almost every diver because boats in different parts of the world do things differently. The PADI Boat Diver Specialty course familiarizes you with the various ways you stow gear, enter and exit the water, use surface lines and more, depending upon the type of boat and the location.
And if you think that there are only two ways of entering the water - Giant Stride and Back Roll Entry, you are wrong. There are actually more than 2 methods of entering water. By attending the Boat Diver Specialty, divers become more considerate after understanding the fact that a boat has limited spaces, etc.
Pre-requisite
To qualify for the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course, an individual must:
- Must be a PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)
- Be 10 years of age or older.
Orpheus Dive is the only dive centre in Singapore that organizes the Master Scuba Diver Challenge program. Every year, two divers will stand a chance to win a free trip to top destinations such as Similans Islands, Sipadan and Manado to hone their newly acquired skills.
And if that is not enough, divers who sign up for the Master Scuba Diver Challenge program earn themselves the unique and 'NOT FOR SALE' Master Scuba Diver T-Shirt and Cap.

While many of us take for granted that we know everything about diving off a boat, there are some unique facts that we actually do not know and have never experienced before. The Boat Diver specialty objective is to widen the knowledge of divers. The course covers the following topics
- Techniques for diving from boats ranging from small inflatables to giant live-aboards
- Discusses how dive boats differ from place to place
- Gives you focused experience and training for diving from boats in your local area
- Covers basic boat safety equipment and use
- The planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of boat diving.
- Proper boat diving etiquette -- storage of personal equipment, personal conduct and considerations for care of the boat.
- Basic, common boat terminology.
- Specific boat diving laws and/or ordinances.
- Local boat diving laws and/or ordinances.
- Overview of emergency/safety equipment needed on-board private diving vessels.
|
The recommended training schedule for this course commences with a 3 hour theory lesson conducted in Orpheus Dive, followed by 2 open water dives over a weekend.
Typically, the course would begin at Orpheus Dive with the required theory and discussions about fine-tuning buoyancy underwater, weight position and distribution, streamlining and visualization.

Equipment Retail |
As a PADI 5 Star Dive Facility, a dive centre must provide in-house retail. Orpheus Dive has a well stocked inventory store covering major brands such as Scubapro, Zeagle, TUSA, Seac Sub, Beauchat, Trident, XS Scuba, Underwater Kinetics and Problue.
In Singapore, there ARE ONLY TWO dive centres that are into full retail business.
Note to diver : There are dive centres that make claims that they do have a retail business. However, they only have an online retail arm that purchase stocks when a customer makes an order. Unlike us, our well stocked store has everything that a diver needs. And because of the volume purchase, we are able to offer lower prices compared to the rest of the dive centres.
