Scuba Cylinders (Tanks) Servicing and Maintenance
scuba cylinder VALVE SERVICING
During any form of scuba cylinder maintenance, it is highly recommended to consider servicing your valve as well. During servicing, your Yoke, DIn or M25 valves will be striped completely and each parts will be ultrasonic cleaned. All O-rings and manufacturer recommended parts will be replace, prolonging the life span of your valves.
scuba cylinder (vip) visual inspection
Just like your regulator, BC and computer, your scuba cylinder requires an annual checkup, too. During a Visual Inspection, a technician will remove the valve from your tank and look inside. The technician is checking to ensure the inside of the cylinder is free of water, rust, cracks and foreign objects. View inside a scuba cylinder past the threads. The inside of your tank should be clean and dry.Next, the technician uses a tool to magnify the threads on the neck of your tank. They are again looking for rust, cracks, or other signs of damage that may compromise the strength of the cylinder.
scuba cylinder hydrostatic testing
During a hydrostatic test, a Scuba cylinder is examined to ensure it can safely hold its rated pressure. This regular testing is crucial because Scuba cylinders, or any compressed gas cylinder for that matter, can rupture if there’s degradation in structural integrity. A hydrostatic test consists of filling the cylinder with a nearly incompressible liquid, in most cases water, pressurizing the cylinder and examining it for leaks or permanent changes in shape.
