WHEN ONE TANK IS NOT ENOUGH
PADI TECREC 45
Who SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE
The PADI Tec 45 course is the second part of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver program. You’ll extend your depth limit to 45 metres/145 feet and learn to plan and execute repetitive decompression dives using a single stage/decompression cylinder. It puts you in a complete tec diving rig, which can be either backmount or sidemount. You’ll also make accelerated decompression dives using EANx or pure oxygen. This is a course where you’ll rise to the challenge and make the commitment to become a technical diver.
Step 1 – Theory Lesson
This program is beyond that of the recreational level, there are some preparation work that needs to be done prior to the class. Proper equipment fitting will be done before and during the theory lesson. As much as ill-fitting or mildly faulty equipment is generally overlooked and divers are accepting them because there are no other choices, this is strictly unacceptable in technical diving. Your instructor will make personalized recommendations for equipment based your your physicalities and aspiration as a technical diver.
At Tec 45, there will be 3 sessions of theory lessons, 3 hours per session. Topics such as Technical Diving Risks and Responsiblities, Technical Diving Equipment Requirement, Gas Planning, Team Diving and Emergency Procedures will be built upon from Tec 40. The content is rather heavy and intensive but ultimately it is to train you to start thinking and reacting like a technical diver even before you hit the water. No longer will a passing grade be acceptable and a full grasp of the course content is expected. Of course our in-house technical diving instructors will be guiding you along the way and highlight key concepts.
During the theory lesson you would also be able to try some practical skills, such as valve drills on a set of twin tanks, in the comfort of the class room before entering the pool.
Theory lessons are conducted on Wednesday evenings, 1830hrs to 2130hrs, at our dive school. Alternate lesson timing is possible based on instructors’ availability.
Step 2 – POOL Lesson
At Tec 45, there will be a total of 2 pool training sessions. During the training, you will learn to dive with 3 cylinders, a set of twin tanks and a deco bottle, and standardized rig with the signature long hose set-up.
Adequate buoyancy control is expected from the beginning of the training. Should you have doubts regarding your level of buoyancy control, do speak to our in-house tecrec instructor for an evaluation or consider the T.A.P Course to improve your fundamental skill sets before embarking on the Tec 45 pool training.
You will master skills such as S-Drill, handling of deco bottles, gas switching and various manoeuvres. Problem solving in emergencies will also be practised repeatedly to ensure that they are engrained in your muscle memory. Lastly, you will identify the changes in your buoyancy throughout various pressure in your diving cylinders and make changes to pinpoint accuracy. You’d realize most of the skills are repeat of Tec 40 so the session emphasizes more on getting you used and comfortable to diving in 3 cylinders
The pool sessions are conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 10pm and should you need additional lessons, that can be arranged on any other Wednesday evenings as well. The pool sessions are conducted over at Outram Secondary School.

Step 3 – OCEAN DIVES
When you are done with your theory and pool training, it is time to decide where you would want to go to complete your 4 required ocean dives. Orpheus Dive offers many different packages catering to your budget and also your need for comfort and experience.
Local Diving Course – Designed for divers who wants to obtain their certification without leaving the country. The visibility around Singapore water is not the best in Asia, with an average underwater visibility of about 3 to 4 metres. The 4 required ocean dives are conducted over two seperate weekends on Sunday mornings.
Budget Tioman Trips – Designed for divers who wants to be trained by our experienced instructors but do not wish to have all the comfort and ease of diving. Please note, such packages requires almost a total 10 hours per way. The chalets in such packages are generally quad sharing (two twin sharing beds) in a “rustic” wooden chalets. DO NOT EXPECT ANY FORM OF SERVICES from the chalets in this package.
Bali Weekend Getaway – Designed for divers who can take 1.5 days off from work. Bali as a diving destination is renowned and the bungalows we used are designed for comfort for 2 divers. All we have gotten as reviews from divers are “Value for Money”, “Great Diving”, “Much better than the tiring Tioman Trips” and “Extreme luxurious trip at affordable prices”.
Liveaboard Diving from Singapore – For divers who want the comfort without taking off from work, another option we provide are liveaboard departing from Singapore. Whilst liveaboard is not as comfortable as our Bali trips, it is significantly much better than the budget Tioman trips as well.
